Skiing or Snowboarding In Sethan

Planning a trip to learn skiing and snowboarding in Sethan? This blog is for you.

I had my first snowboarding experience in Sethan in 2017 and since then I’ve been regularly practising the sport.

I also ran a guesthouse in Sethan, Hamta Valley (between 2017 and 2024) by the name of FootlooseCamps and organised snowboarding and skiing lessons. Located on hill-top the place offered an adventurous experience experience. You can visit our Instagram page for photos and more info. Check FOOTLOOSE CAMPS on Instagram. You can also visit our website FootlooseCamps Resort.

But in 2025, we decided to discontinue running the guesthouse as well as our skiing and snowboarding lessons in Sethan. This was because of the increasing crowd in the valley. Inaccessibility, expensive cabs & bad road-conditions were also the reasons. FootlooseCamps & Resort discontinued operating in Sethan Hamta in 2025.

Why I chose Sethan over Solang Valley (the second option for learning skiing/snowboarding near Manali) before 2025 was its offbeat location.

But when Sethan became crowded, it became worse because unlike Solang Valley, Sethan is a narrow valley, making traffic and crowd repercussions even bad.

Here’s a quick video about my first snowboarding experience (back in 2017)…

Unlike other places for learning snowboarding in India (like Auli, in Uttarakhand, or Gulmarg, in Kashmir) ski slopes in Sethan were comparatively less crowded — something that plays a great role for beginners to learn. But over-tourism has changed that.

At nearly 2800 m above sea level and a 45 min drive from Manali Mall Road, Sethan also offers beautiful views of the towering Dhauladhar ranges. And this made it an all-year-round popular tourist destination. During Summer, Sethan suits those who are looking for experiences like Trekking. Hamta Pass trek has also contributed a lot to making this place popular and overcrowded.
