During my very recent 9-day solo bike trip to Spiti Valley, I did camping in Chandratal. I also camped all the 9 nights throughout the trip.
This helped me to keep my budget under a good control and stay away from the most ‘sought after’ tourist places — as I had the security to have a roof at night, no matter where I go.
Other than visiting some offbeat places and staying at places where no tourist stays, I happened to do a very cheap Spiti Valley tour that cost me less than 5000 Rupees for my 9-day motorcycle ride from Delhi to Kaza and back.
Where camping in Chandratal was certainly a highlight, all other Spiti Valley Camping places I explored during the trip were no less a highlight. On this trip, there were days when I happened to camp inside a monastery as well as camp in a jungle, with a right in the middle of nowhere kind of setting. All in all, the experience and memories were amazing.
Among all the motorcycle trips I have had throughout my life, the Spiti valley road trip has remained my all-time favourite. It was also my first ever motorcycle ride in the Himalayas. Camping made it more adventurous.
Here, a quick time-lapse of my temporary dwelling (on day 8) in making. Pretty neat, eh?
Location: Chandra Tal (about 4,300 m above sea level).
Also, note that if you are not doing a road trip to Chandratal, you can also do a trek from Manali and reach Chandratal. It takes three days to do the trek but the experience is worthwhile. The trek starts from Manali and reaches Chandratal via Hamta Valley.
Now, let’s get to the topic in hand and see my Camping in Chandratal video from my Youtube channel.
