Before I go any further, I have to admit — I have always underestimated Kasauli as a travel-destination. “It must be just another crowded hill town with no charm left,” I remember saying once while wandering through the serene hills around Manali. But honestly, and in the peak tourist summer months, Kasauli feels more peaceful than Manali.
Hidden behind its colonial charm and old-world streets lies a quiet little hill town that still holds onto its simplicity — misty pine forests, slow mornings, and postcard-perfect sunsets from every corner.
Why Kasauli Captured My Soul?
If you know where to go, you will find out that this town is not loud or touristy; it’s calm, intimate, and effortlessly beautiful — the kind of place that makes you slow down without even trying. Of course you need to escape the bustling Mall Road in Kasauli, and go a further away, but as soon as you do that you find out that it is just the kind of place you want to be.
One of the best things about Kasauli is its close proximity. For most other popular tourist destinations in Himachal, including Bir Billing, Manali and Jibhi, it takes an entire day to reach from Delhi or Chandigarh. However, for Delhi to Kasauli, it is less than 6 hours drive. From Chandigarh, it is less than 2 hours drive, which makes it an ideal weekend destination.
Tucked away in the Solan district, this town is less about commercial buzz and more about the quiet, old-world magic that you can experience from the many offbeat properties in Kasauli. It’s the perfect place for anyone looking to slow down, breathe in the crisp pine-scented air, and take long, meditative walks.
If you’re planning a trip to Kasauli, stop scrolling through crowded search results. This is your personal guide, fresh from my notebook, detailing the must-see spots, the hidden trails, and the comfortable havens that made my Kasauli experience truly special.
Check the Youtube Video below where we explored some of the popular tourist attractions in Kasauli during our two day stay. Though there are more things to see, these highlights are some of the must-visits and a quick introduction of the city…
Popular & Offbeat Tourist Attractions in Kasauli
Unlike bustling hill stations, the Tourist Attractions in Kasauli are best explored on foot, allowing you to soak in the atmosphere of the military cantonment.
Here are the places you absolutely can’t miss, which were the highlight of my exploration:
Monkey Point
This is the highest point in Kasauli and arguably the most significant place to visit. It’s located within the Air Force Station, which means a short trek (and leaving your cameras/phones at the entrance) is required, but the view is worth every step.
According to mythical legend, it’s believed that Lord Hanuman touched this spot while carrying the Sanjeevani herb. From the top, the panoramic view of the Sutlej River flowing through the distant plains, alongside the cities of Chandigarh and Panchkula, is simply breathtaking. It truly feels like standing at the rooftop of the world.
Gilbert Trail
If you ask me for the single best thing to do in Kasauli, I’d point you to this trail. Starting near the Sunset Point, this 1.5-km kuccha (unpaved) path winds through lush pine and oak forests.
Start your walk around 6 AM, and the experience will be pure magic. It’s an easy, romantic walk, perfect for nature photography and a quiet rendezvous with the Himalayan wilderness. This is definitely one of the top Things to see in Kasauli for peace-seekers.
Christ Church
Standing proudly in the heart of the town, Christ Church is the oldest church in Himachal Pradesh, dating back to 1853. Its Neo-Gothic architecture and stunning stained-glass windows are a testament to Kasauli’s colonial heritage.
And the tranquility inside this church is something else. The beautiful stained-glass work in the Church depict Christ and some of the reverred saints. It’s a photographer’s delight and a mandatory stop for history and architecture buffs.

Sunset Point & The Lover’s Lane
Located at the end of the Upper Mall Road, the Sunset Point is the classic Kasauli experience. The nearby Lover’s Lane is a quieter, winding path that offers equally beautiful valley views. The Sunset Point is kind of the last point of the Gilbert’s Trail.
I remember spending one entire evening here, just watching the sky change colours. Grab a bench, a hot cup of tea, and enjoy the sunset! Sadly, during our visit, we missed the sunset because we ended up starting the trail a little later.

The Kasauli Brewery: Asia’s Oldest Distillery
A must-visit for history and spirits enthusiasts! Established in the 1820s by Edward Dyer, this is one of Asia’s oldest working distilleries.
While entry is often restricted to civilians today (due to it being a working brewery), the sheer historical significance of the location—which once produced Asia’s first beer, Lion Beer—makes it a fascinating landmark to visit from the outside. Check local timings and restrictions before planning your visit.
See the Youtube video shared above how we tried to get a permission for the visit but couldn’t, because for any visitor a proper prior written permission is needed to get into the premise.

Heritage Market/Mall Road
One of the most charming spots in town, Heritage Market (also the Mall Road of Kasauli) is a compact yet vibrant stretch of colonial-era shops and cafés that perfectly capture the town’s old-world charm.
It’s the best place to stroll around, shop for souvenirs, woollens, and local handicrafts, or simply grab a coffee while soaking in the hill-town vibe. The market truly comes alive in the evenings, with travellers and locals mingling over momos, Maggi, and a lot more
A walk through Heritage Market is a must.

Dharampur/Kalka Toy Train
While not in Kasauli, the experience of riding the UNESCO World Heritage Kalka-Shimla Toy Train nearby is unforgettable. The nearest major station is Dharampur.
Take a short drive to Dharampur and hop on the toy train for a small section (maybe up to Barog). It’s a nostalgic journey through tunnels and over bridges, giving you truly iconic views of the Himachal hills.
Villages In Kasauli
As I wrote above, you need to go a little away from the main town housing the Mall Road and big markets, and that’s where you will find the more peaceful and beautiful side of Kasauli.
Bohli Village
I am sure 99% of people reading this blog have never even heard of Bohli village — and that includes most locals too. To be honest, there’s nothing particularly remarkable about it at first glance. It’s just another small, quiet village tucked away near Kasauli — and yet, that’s exactly where its charm lies.
I stumbled upon Bohli during a blog trip with a hotel chain (I’ll skip the name since this isn’t a sponsored post). During my stay, I wandered off the typical tourist trails and discovered the offbeat side of Kasauli — one that was peaceful, slow-paced, and far more beautiful than I expected.
Narrow lanes lined with old Himachali homes, the sound of rustling pine trees, and locals greeting with warm smiles — Bohli felt like the kind of place that hadn’t been touched by time. If you’ve ever longed to experience Kasauli beyond the crowded Mall Road and the usual viewpoints, Bohli is where you’ll find the true soul of the hills.
I am currently making a Video below of my visit and stay in Bohli. Will upload soon 🙂
Comfort and Charm: Finding the Best Resorts in Kasauli
A perfect trip requires a perfect place to rest your head. The accommodation landscape offers everything from cozy homestays to luxury Resorts in Kasauli. The best ones offer sweeping valley views and a tranquil atmosphere away from the main Mall Road crowd.
Though there are many resorts in Kasauli, offering a vide range of options, the one I can recommend out of my personal experience is Rosetum Resort.
We booked their Jacuzzi Suite (they have around 3–4 room categories to choose from) which cost us nearly ₹15,000 per night, including breakfast. And honestly, it was worth every rupee. The room was tastefully designed with modern interiors, a cozy bed facing the hills, and a balcony that opened up to sweeping views of pine-covered slopes.

But the highlight was definitely the Jacuzzi, placed right next to a large glass window that framed the Kasauli mountains perfectly. Soaking there in warm water while watching the sun go down over the valley felt nothing short of cinematic.
See the Youtube Video shared above for a video review of the property (other than the highlights we covered in the town).

The service too deserves a mention — prompt, polite, and genuinely caring.
If you’re looking for a romantic getaway or just a luxurious weekend escape from Chandigarh or Delhi, Rosetum Kasauli is a solid pick. It strikes that perfect balance between comfort, design, and location — something not every property in Kasauli manages to do. After all, the property has a deserving 4-star rating.
For a comparatively budget option, look for one of the many charming homestays slightly outside the main cantonment area. They often provide the most authentic Himachali hospitality, local food, and incredible views for a fraction of the price of the major resorts.
