The first time I was at Palolem Beach, was the winter of 2016. It was also the first time I visited Goa. I stayed at a beautiful beachside resort at Agonda for a week and travelled around.
Goa used to look different back then. You could find more open spaces and empty surreal beaches. Hot Air Ballooning was also a thing back then and Goa Tourism was heavily promoting it. They invited me to experience the Hot Air Balloon in Goa and that’s why I ended up in Goa.
But times have changed now. Empty beaches are rare to find. Hot Air Ballooning has been discontinued. You can see tourists at places that few people knew of back then. Palolem is one such example.
In 2016 this place used to be super-offbeat. Today, in 2024, it has become mainstream. There are more Palolem Beach Resorts than you can count. But honestly speaking, I like this change!
Palolem: An Introduction
Located in the Canacona region of South Goa, Palolem Beach is a pristine crescent-shaped paradise known for its scenic beauty, vibrant nightlife, and peaceful ambience.
It is often claimed as one of the best beaches in India that attract travelers seeking everything from adventure to tranquility.
During my recent visit, I spent 3-nights here and in this blog, I have provided all the information you need to plan the perfect stay near Palolem Beach, with details on accommodation, things to do, and must-visit spots.
Be careful while swimming during early and late hours when there are fewer people in the ocean, however, as there are many jellyfish in this area. When fewer people are in the ocean, jellyfish tend to come closer to the beach. I have personally been stung during one of the mornings here. Watch the YouTube video below…
Why Visit Palolem Beach?
This part of Goa is ideal for solo travelers, couples, and families alike. Its calm waters are perfect for swimming, while the bustling shacks and cafes offer delectable Goan cuisine.
With an array of Palolem Beach huts, guest houses, resorts, and homestays, accommodation options suit all budgets.
You will also find a mix of Indian and European crowds here with many Israeli tourists. This makes the entire ambience very vibrant. Unlike some other beaches (particularly Colva Beach) where may find going into the ocean in a bikini (I am particularly saying so for female travellers) because of the Indian crowd, on this beach you won’t feel so.
The entire ambience of here and around the adjoining Patnem Beach is very European with most people walking around half naked. Also, unlike most Noth Goa Beaches, most beaches around here feel less crowded.

You can also choose from the many Airbnb available in the area, especially if you are looking for a kitchen setup to cook your meals.
I also stayed at an Airbnb located 2km from the beach. The place offered 2 air-conditioned bedrooms, a kitchen, a living area with a TV and a washing machine. For a more homely environment, you can go for something similar. I liked the place, hence sharing with you the phone number of the owner: 98239 79744.

Things to Do at Palolem Beach
Palolem is not just about relaxing by the beach; there are several activities to keep you entertained.
1. Water Sports
Enjoy a range of Palolem Beach water sports, such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and dolphin-watching tours. However, be careful of the touts. It’s always a good idea to book a tour with the hotel you’re staying at, and ask a few people for prices before you book a tour.
2. Explore Butterfly and Honeymoon Beaches
Take a boat ride to nearby Butterfly Beach and Honeymoon Beach, which are known for their secluded charm and scenic beauty.
Butterfly Beach, however, is getting mainstream lately. I have written a detailed blogpost on Butterfly Beach about my false expectations. You can also watch the YouTube video in that article.
3. Yoga and Wellness Retreats
For yoga enthusiasts, this part of South Goa offers many resorts with wellness programs. Palm Forest and The Village Resort Palolem are popular choices for yoga retreats.
4. Nightlife at Club Palolem
If you enjoy parties, don’t miss the vibrant nightlife at Club Palolem, which offers beachside DJ events and parties.
Other Best Places to Stay Near Palolem Beach
If you prefer to stay away from the bustling crowds, several options near the beach offer a quieter atmosphere. Some of the best hotels near Palolem Beach include:
- Resorts near Palolem Beach include: Sobit Sarovar Portico and Royal Wood Beach Resort.
- Cottages in Palolem Beach include: Look for a place near the Secreat Hill and Ourem Road area. Most places here offer rooms with attached bathrooms at a good budget price.
- Homestay in Palolem Beach include: Honestly speaking I do not recommend such an experience in Goa because staying in a homestay has its restrictions, particularly of coming late in the night or drunk. If you’re visiting Goa to party, book a hotel or a Airbnb for more freedom.

Getting to Palolem Beach
Palolem Beach is located about 60 km from Dabolim Airport and 36 km from Madgaon Railway Station.
If you’re short on budget, take a public bus to Palolem. We did a similar thing on day 1 when we landed in Goa and took a bus from the Goa International Airport to Colva. Where taxis were charging 1500 rupees, the bus cost only 120 Rupees for the two of us.

Again, you can reach Palolem by taxi, bus, or rented scooter. Goa’s efficient public transport makes it easy to explore nearby beaches and attractions.
Since we were already in Goa, we rented a scooter for 350 Rs per day and came on our own. We travelled from Benaulim to Palolem and it took us nearly 50 minutes.
