Malaysia
This Malaysia travel blog is a repository category including all articles I have written on the destination. I have had two trips there so far – both were invitations by the local tourism bodies and Malindo Air (a Malaysia based airlines).
During my first trip, I happened to travel Selangor for a week with Selangor tourism before extending my trip and travelling Kuala Lumpur an Penang for a few more weeks.
The second trip happened in Sabah state in Borneo.
Out of the two trips, I personally loved Borneo the more as it is more cultural and offbeat. Where Malaysian Peninsular has comparatively lost the original charm, Borneo still feels very real. The town of Kota Kinabalu remains my favourite in Sabah state in Borneo.
Similarly, I adored Borneo for its welcoming locals. There was not a single instance when I smiled at someone (while travelling across Sabah) and the smile wasn’t returned to me. I moreover loved how local Malays in Sabah valued family and community, over individualism. They work as one and that’s worth appreciating.
So yea, you just cannot run off a list of reasons to love Borneo without including the natives!
Borneo is, moreover, richer in natural beauty compare to the Peninsular (read the below shared Malaysia travel blog for more).
According to statistics, over 50% of Sabah’s landmass is still covered under forest reserves. Where most places in Peninsular, including the popular KL vouch for a rich shopping scene, nightlife, and a great metropolis experience, Sabah is all about nature and wildlife.
