one day in Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber

Hi! I am Dev, a New Delhi, India, based Indian travel blogger.

footloosedev

I was a journalism student and did my first job as a documentary film-maker in England, before I decided to leave everything behind, relocate and become a full-time Indian travel blogger.

Though it is true that since 2016, I have only been travelling I wasn’t much of a traveller before that.

So how did it happen?

What made me a nomad?

Let’s dig deep into my past a little and find out what forced me to become a full-time…

Indian Travel Blogger

Growing up in a confused and muddled neighbourhood of New Delhi, I was never a big traveller.

In fact, I was so incurious about travelling, that despite living in Europe for a couple of years, I never found myself fascinated with the idea of exploring that beautiful continent.

In 2014, I went on my first ever solo backpacking trip in the Himalayas — a Gangotri to Gomukh trek journey — where I met a group of travellers. They were on indefinite leave to travel the world, and a few weeks of aimless wandering with them opened me to a world of new possibilities. I explored my own country, and its different cultures — in a way I did never before.

From that moment on, I was hooked on travel. I came back home, continued my job for the next few months, saved most of the money, only to eventually quit my job and travel forever. And that’s how I became a full-time Indian travel blogger.

I now run this blog to share my learning from the road and help others realise their travel dreams. From teaching people how to travel the world without money to how to make money from travel blogging (and thus live my life). I teach them all.

A LITTLE ABOUT HOW I LIKE TO TRAVEL

I look for local and cultural experiences. I do not make itineraries and prefer home-stays. I go to places where tourists seldom pass through and sometimes find abode on an isolated mountain for days. Because I am into slow travel, I often travel alone and make friends on the road.

I am all into adventure travel, which is something more than just participating in extreme activities.

This adventure travel has helped me break out of my comfort zone, immerse myself in different cultures, challenge my assumptions about foreign lands and understand the world from someone else’s perspective.

Hopefully, I will inspire you to break your comfort zone and learn from all those great experiences that this world has to offer.

So far, I have been to over 25 countries and have worked with over 50 tourism boards and travel companies including Cathay Pacific Airlines, Germany Tourism, Singapore airlines, Indonesia Tourism, and more.

About

I am Dev, and I've been travelling full-time since 2016. I was a journalism student & started my corporate career as a documentary film-maker in England, before moving to India & becoming a full-time nomad. 25+countries. 50+ Brand Partnerships. And the adventure continues...

  1. Nice to meet someone that loves “slow travel” as well… I have met people on the road that visited 5 countries in a 2 weeks trips, crazy!
It was really nice to read your profile and discover all the adventures you have been through…
I have seen you are heading to Rajasthan in January, so I’ll definitely be following you since I’m really interested in that area for upcoming trips! 🙂

  2. I love your page, it’s authentic and refreshing. I also look for local and cultural experiences and places less ventured by tourist. I look forward to reading more of your posts 🙂

  3. I too like local cultures, but I make itineraries so that things coincide. Great to know more about you Dev, especially that you are trying to inspire others to travel.

  4. Jimmy and Tina

Such a nice post and love how your got yourself into traveling. I used to always say when I was younger to people who were traveling all over the world that there is so much beauty in our own back yards. I have extensively traveled at home in America and only recently started seeing the world. I would love to go to Tibet someday and see Mt. Everest and the Himalayas! Sounds like you are meeting some great people and seeing how much beauty your homeland has to offer.

  5. Subhadrika Sen

I admire you for being able to travel so much. I must admit i could not have agreed more with you when you said that one does not have to be really rich to travel. I travel a lot and all of them are budget friendly and quite achievable and practical in nature. I hope you continue with such wonderful travels in the future. would love to look up your webiste cause its amazing.

  6. It’s so nice to get to hear a little about you! I think we like traveling in the same kind of way. I also really enjoy finding local experiences 🙂

  7. Unfortunately slow travel is not an option for me right now as I still have a mortgage to pay lol. Maybe in a few years. Following your journeys there Dev. Good luck!

  8. Wow, that’s some life Dev. You’re doing what you love to and enjoying each moment.

    • I’ve changed a few jobs and tried a few careers in my life, but none of them were as soul satisfying, as travelling.

  9. luxurybackpacking | Emma

Following your blog from quite some time now, and I love the stories you write. Glad to know more about the face behind this travel blog! Everyone’s story is so interesting and different, thanks for sharing a bit about yourself! 🙂

    • Hey, thanks for your kind comment and appreciating my work. After all, that’s what a writer wants right?… a little appreciation!

  10. Hannah @GettingStamped

Safe travels and maybe our paths will cross somewhere in Asia?!?

  11. It’s nice to know a little more about you and the website in conjunction 🙂 I am glad (and little jealous) that you are now traveling full time for over an year..I would like to some day. Hope your website will help me do it

  12. Ticker Eats The World

A beautiful personal post Dev and it’s always great to see someone enjoy travelling even if they discovered it later in life. I too lived in Europe and while I have been travelling every since I was 2 years old, I never realized I was a “traveller”till much later in life.

Wish you all the best on your future travels.

  13. Punita Malhotra

Slow travel, and specially ongoing travel is still a fairly new trend in India, so I’m sure a lot of people back home ‘don’t get’ what you’re upto. 🙂 Doesn’t matter if they don’t…its your journey, not theirs.

    • That’s true Punita. Full time travel is indeed something strange as per many people here. But I think young poeple have started travelling, and I am sure more and more people will start understanding the trend soon enough!

  14. Daisy Huntington- DaisLikeThese

This is a great introduction page Dev. Very inspiring. And I am sure it gives your readers a good insight into your background and how you developed a love of travel.
I love that you travel alone but making friends along the way.

  15. Promise Chika Maxwell

Coming out in the form that you just did, tossing all aside and head the road is a great step to take. I really appreciate what you are doing now, taking your time to bring to us these wounderful experience of yours because we can all agree that travel is the only thing you buy that makes you reacher. Nothing feels right than you being a master of yourself.

    • Thanks for such an inspiring comment Max. I checked your blog, looks pretty useful for travelers like us.

  16. Jen Morrow

Nice to meet you! I totally agree with your idea of slow travel. I’m also into slow travel and prefer to learn about the path less traveled.

  17. Mel I TravelingMel

That was quite an inspiring intro Dev! Glad you found your way into the traveling world. And more than that, I think it’s great that you are reaching out to help others do the same. Good luck.
