What Adventure Means To You?

So, I often talk about the term ‘Adventure travel’ in my blog posts. But I never shared here what do I mean by Adventure. Is it adventure activities like Scuba Diving or Bungy Jumping or some other extreme activity that spike in us adrenaline a little more than, say, jogging or cycling? Or is it something else than that? Well, speaking of it, here’s what I understand by Adventure:

Adventure For Me Is The Power Of ThoughtItienerary

When we first look at the brochure and imagine in our head who we’ll become when we go to that place. When we fantasize about that beach, that sunset and dream of what, of who, we might become in that moment – Adventure is that power of thought.

It’s in hacking the reality of our yet-to-be-discovered journey and a desire for self-transcendence, a desire for rebirth, for apotheosis. That moment when we create itineraries or book our tickets or call our friends, for me, is the purest Adventure of all.

Adventure For Me The Joy In Getting LostAdventure

We are bliss junkies, chasing the ultimate truth. Sure a secured job, a regular source of income cheers us, but does that enthral us? Is the actual joy not in getting lost?

I mean, think for a second. Why do we love open spaces? Why do they have more appeal than beautiful, confined corners of our home where we at least know we’re safe? Why do we look at the infinite ocean and feel that sense of reverence, a sense of awe? Instead of being afraid we look at them and beckon ourselves to the mystery. And that’s the state of mind we want to be in. That’s the kind of travel that enthrals us – lost in the search of signification. Because it’s only when we are lost, are we found!

Adventure For Me Is That Moment Of Awecuriousity

That moment when you feel that exhilarating neuro-storm, as kids do every time they see something new and experience a cognitive ecstasy, an insatiable drive to understand what’s in front of their eyes.

Adventure for me is in that moment when we, as a kid, first felt when we had looked at the sky and found dozens of tiny twinkling dots – a perfect invitation for us to amble, to go beyond our conscious state and fantasize the reality. It’s into experiencing that revelatory ecstasy of awe, into making time dilated because of the poetry of the present moment. And I seek that illumination, that catharsis. That feeling of letting go and being moved to tears by the exquisiteness of the moment.

Adventure For Me Is Learning New Ideas, New Storiesburning lamp

I am always interested in learning new concepts, new ideas that have the capacity to encourage me to think differently. To probe at the adjacent possible.

These ideas that we get in the moment of serendipity or by simply gazing out the windows of the train for hours land us in Oz – a place where there’s room for mystery, a place where there is a room for surrealism and Adventure. These ideas are sometimes more adventurous, more enthralling than our entire journey. They not only usher radical amazement but also take us to the next level where creativity and imagination reign supreme. They have always been a software upgrade to a New Me and to a New You! And an Adventure of a different kind!

After my couple of years of corporate career, I left that lifestyle behind, and with it, everything that didn't fit in a backpack. I've learned that this world is too big (and too interesting!) to spend your life working at one place, and that's what inspires me to remain footloose and fancy-free for the rest of my life!

Getting lost on the road is part of the fun of travelling for me. That is the reason why I don’t use a map sometimes and just go wherever the path takes me. I might get a little nervous but it always turns out into a good learning experience that I will remember.

    • If you don’t use a map or make itineraries you leave open the door of possibilities. Always!
